JeryMC
Jery is one of my best friends. He makes bowties, laughter from 140 characters and great jumping photographs. Jery is making a bowtie everyday in 2012 for a project called The Everyday Bowtie! His website for bowties is currently under construction and will be going live very very soon but check out his blog and order a bowtie and support this man before he gets famous! Follow him on twitter, because Justin Bieber’s mom does…

Who are you?
Bro, hard question. I’m Jery McKinney but I guess I’m a guy that loves to laugh and nerds out really bad on any and every kind of design. And I love Jesus more than anything.
Where do you come from?
I’m originally from Portland, Oregon which actually is a really amazing city. Spent 7 years in Seattle, Washington after that. Then I moved to San Diego about 12 years ago. I’m a west coast kid.
What sort of background do you come from?
My parents are pastors so most of my background is the church.
Why do you wake up every morning?
Because you never know what a day is going to hold. And to create and design things.
What would be more awesome, hi-fiving a speeding cheetah, or bear-hugging a blue whale?
I have to say, bear hugging a whale. I love bear hugging any animal. Especially in the ocean.
If there was some piece of clothing, some some sort of fashionable item, that could be worn around your neck, what kind of item would you wear?
Haha this feels like a set up. I have to say a bow tie.
What is your line of work?
I’m an aspiring fashion designer who currently is making and selling bow ties while I work at my parents church and write run-on sentences in my spare time.
What makes each day amazing to you?
Having amazing people in my life. So inspired by like minded individuals pursuing their dreams.
Why do you feel it’s important to raise awareness about the reality of human trafficking?
It’s a much bigger issue than people realize and it’s going on right here in the United States. Somebody has got to do something about it. Love that this project is.
Do you feel that the fashion industry inherently has the ability to generate enough momentum to stop this social injustice?
When paired with other things, yes. The fashion industry carries a lot of influence worldwide. Not to mention what fiscal contributions that could be made.
What are a few things you would like to see in the fashion industry this year that would greatly benefit the cause?
Awareness is huge. Acknowledging the issue is step one toward solving it. I’d love to see more people in influence speak out against this atrocity.
Why do you take time out of your busy life to support something like A21?
It hurts my heart that people are actually bought and sold. It has to stop.
What words would you give to inspire us to do the same?
If all of us do something then we can make a real difference. Let’s do this!
What do you do with your free time (assuming you have any)?
Spend most of it with the girlfriend. God bless her.
If you could give to us one compelling, concluding thought, what would it be?
Pursue your dreams and don’t settle for less.

This is my first children’s tie of the project! This fabric was taken from the pants shown above… well they used to be pants. The fabric is 100% cotton and the weight of denim. The aqua color looks even better in person than in the picture. Would look rad on a lil’ homie with jeans and a cardi. But what do I know.
Buy it for your favorite kid for only $40.

Love how this floral looks so much like camo. The colors are so rad to me. This fabric was sourced from a small thrift store in Point Loma. Its 55% linen and 45% rayon. Originally it was a 3XL woman’s jacket… who knows what they were thinking. I’m thinking it makes a much better looking bow tie.
Modeled by our household bobcat. Shirt by Polo.
Already sold.
May have enough fabric for one more. Email orders@jerymc.com to request.

BE YOU

I don’t want everyone to dress like me. I don’t want everyone to like the way I dress. I like it when people find their style and allow it to grow and take shape.
Here’s some suggestions I’d give for finding your fashion identity:

SUMMER LOVE

What is love?
We love the beach. We love to watch sports. We love to hang out with friends. We love ice cream… Essentially we love certain activities, we love certain places, we love certain objects.
So different though, is the love we have for another individual. It should probably be a different word altogether.
